Day 2 of the @zutaraweek 2021: Disguised

It seemed like a lifetime ago when she had taken some pride over her looks, after the day at the spa, or with the fancy dress Toph had recommended for their little infiltration into the party. It had felt like a game of pretend, of being a refined young lady from a rich family.

An illusion, merely a pause in the reality of the war that the King refused to know about. But she noticed and appreciated the confidence that the disguise had given her.

SECOND DAY AND I'M NOT BEHIND YET and I even have a nicer title now.

Day 4 of the @zutaraweek 2021! Drabble fic that I am actually writing each day!

Life around Mai (around Azula and his father) made him cautious. He watched his every word, never truly able to enjoy his return home, afraid of incurring her (and Azula and the Fire Lord’s) cold wrath.

The Fire Nation hadn’t run out of surprises. Who would have thought that being trapped inside a wooden cage would improve her relationship with Toph? Or… that there was another waterbender hiding there?

Azula was easy enough to find. His challenge was answered the way he expected. She had changed; it was not like the other times he had fought against her… or he was the one who had changed.

“No lightning today? Afraid I’ll redirect it?” he taunted, all his senses on edge, feeling the exhilaration of having the upper hand for once.

“Oh, I’ll show you lightning!” Azula shouted, blue light crackling on the tip of her fingers, and he readied his stance.

I can't believe that the @zutaraweek is almost over o.O
